About this project

A community-maintained Ruby client for TypeSafe AI, with typed answer objects, retries, timeouts, cancellation, and configurable logging. TypeSafe's Jev model evaluates state against questions defined by your application. It returns structured decisions that your code can use for classification, ranking, and routing. Read the official introduction for the product model.

Highlights

  • Requires Ruby 3.1 or newer with CI across 3.1 through 4.0; installs as a plain gem with no other setup.
  • Typed answers expose choice, confidence, probabilities, score, legend and usage, reachable by symbol or string key.
  • From 0.6.0.1 builders are checked locally: score needs 2-10 levels, choice needs 1-255 options, and failures raise before any HTTP request.
  • Retries cover 408, 429, 5xx, connection failures and timeouts, backing off from 500ms with downward jitter and honoring server delays.

Watch out

This is a community project, not affiliated with, endorsed by or supported by TypeSafe AI, and it tracks the official JavaScript SDK 0.6.0 rather than any Ruby release from the vendor. Ruby-only corrections add a fourth version component, and merging to main does not publish a gem, so check RubyGems and the releases page for what is actually published. The local validation is stricter than JS 0.6.0 on request shapes the API reportedly rejects, and the README points to an upstream issue audit for the evidence and its limitations. Each attempt gets a fresh timeout, so total call time can span several attempts plus backoff, and jev-latest is a moving alias you should pin for reproducible deployments. Copy reviewed against the repository README on 2026-10-04, not from running it.

Closed weights have not stopped the ecosystem from rebuilding the shape in the open. API-compatible servers, retrained heads on small models, and inference-time tricks that skip generation entirely.
