Pi Jev (Semantic Tool Router)

Only when you ask, by default. Tool routing, skill discovery, typed evaluations, Jev subagents, and gate checks each spend one request when invoked, while the heuristic fast paths for model selection, reasoning level, and topology fallback classify locally. Automatic mode is the exception and stays off until you opt in.

It fails closed instead of guessing. If Jev is unconfigured or the call fails, inactive tools are not blindly activated, keyword fallbacks report zero confidence, and automatic mode leaves the turn untouched rather than throwing. A local Jev-compatible server can be used by pointing PI_JEV_BASE_URL at it.

One constant. JEV_THRESHOLD, 0.65 by default and defined in src/skills.ts, is the single act-or-reject cutoff read by the router, the tools, the skills listing, and automatic mode. Raise it for precision, lower it for recall. The separate gate CLI has its own default of 0.70 and a --fail-open option.

A probability with a process exit code. pi-jev-gate evaluates a git diff, a file, or stdin against natural-language criteria and exits 0 at or above the threshold, 1 when rejected, and 2 on error unless you pass --fail-open. That makes it usable as a pipeline step, but the judgement underneath is still the model's.

Run pi install npm:pi-jev, or pi install git:github.com/TheoOliveira/pi-jev. Set TYPESAFE_API_KEY, or store the key in ~/.pi/agent/secrets/typesafe_api_key, then run /jev status inside Pi to check the connection.

Skill discovery via jev_find_skill, typed judgments via jev_evaluate with Choice, Noul and Score, dynamic /jev test prompts, and opt-in modes for automatic tool routing, model selection, reasoning level, tool-call guarding and Jev-guided compaction, plus agent orchestration and a typed jev subagent.

pi-jev-gate evaluates a git diff, a file or stdin against natural-language criteria using Jev System One probability. It exits 0 when the probability meets the threshold (0.70 by default), 1 when rejected, and 2 on error, or exits 0 with --fail-open. It can be set as a subagent's gate parameter or used directly in a pipeline.
