Definition
The answer tells you what; confidence tells you whether to act. A common starting pattern divides confidence into three ranges: high confidence acts automatically, medium confidence proceeds with confirmation or review, and low confidence does not act at all.
Gates appear throughout the docs and cookbooks — a 0.7 escalation gate in the SDE cascade, a 0.8 auto-accept gate for citations, a 0.6 floor in voice banking. The values are policy, so start conservative, test on your own data, and adjust.
