Tasksource

Standardizes hundreds of public datasets into interchangeable multiple-choice, classification, and token-classification templates, and deterministically recasts them into typed choice, score, and noul decision requests.

About this project

Huggingface Datasets is an excellent library, but it lacks standardization, and datasets often require preprocessing work to be used interchangeably. tasksource streamlines interchangeable datasets usage to scale evaluation or multi-task learning.

Quoted from the project's README. Read the full README.

Highlights

  • `load_task(id, recast="jev")` with `render_typed_decision` builds a System One request keeping state, instructions, criteria, label, and answer separate.
  • Choice options are permuted per row, seeded by task, split, and row index, so the gold slot carries no positional signal.
  • SoftLabeling tasks expose annotator distributions through `load_task(id, soft=True)`, with a hard majority view as the default and an annotator-count floor.
  • Licenses come from Hub cards and Data Provenance Initiative annotations cached in the package, filterable by `license_use`, best-effort only.

Watch out

Python package with no license stated for the code in the README section reviewed. Expect a large download: datasets land in `$HF_DATASETS_CACHE` and the README asks for more than 100GB of space, while evaluation benchmarks are deliberately parked out of the task list. BIG-bench, MMLU, and BLiMP are excluded from the typed-decision corpus, so it is not a drop-in benchmark suite. Copy reviewed against the repository README on 2026-10-04, not from running it.

Independent pre-registered audit of Jev on Spanish: 19,200 calls over 3,200 paired items on XNLI, PAWS-X, MASSIVE and Belebele. A Spanish state costs 3.0-6.4 accuracy points and roughly doubles ECE on the two hardest tasks, while Spanish instructions change nothing; a CLI reruns the same comparison on your own data.
