Jev Reach

MCP server that layers a reach tool onto chrome-devtools-mcp: Jev picks each click and typed value so your agent states a goal once, then makes one devtools call at the destination.

About this project

chrome-devtools-mcp plus one tool. reach walks the browser to the spot where you want to look, using TypeSafe Jev to pick each click. Then you make one devtools call there instead of one call per click. Everything chrome-devtools-mcp does still works, unchanged, in the same process and the same Chrome. jev-reach registers one extra tool on top.

Quoted from the project's README. Read the full README.

Highlights

  • Every stock devtools tool stays registered in the same process and the same Chrome; reach adds one tool, and the stock collectors record the walk.
  • Typed statuses replace prose: done at goal probability 0.85 or above, plus likely_done, needs_login, stuck after three unchanged actions, and blocked.
  • No page text is ever returned. You get status, page_id, url, title, steps and usage, and a follow-up devtools call is where you read the page.
  • confirm and prompt dialogs count as irreversible and stop the walk with needs_confirmation; allow_irreversible is false by default.

Watch out

You must remove any existing chrome-devtools-mcp entry first, because the plugin registers a server also named chrome-devtools; leaving both running gives you two Chromes and two copies of every tool. The irreversible-action check is a model judgment plus a keyword list, which the README calls a guard and not a security boundary. Page text is sent to TypeSafe on each step, which the README calls fine for local dev pages and asks you to think about for client sites. Only values you pass in can be typed, and only the names reach Jev; Jev never generates text and never judges whether a bug is fixed, so this is navigation only. Coverage is the main frame and open shadow roots: iframes, file upload and drag are not handled. reach carries its own mutex and does not share the stock tool mutex, so the README says not to run it in parallel with other browser tools. chrome-devtools-mcp is pinned to an exact version because reach relies on its internals, and boot fails loudly if the pin breaks. The describe-decide-act loop with typed statuses is credited as ported from other Jev browser projects; what is new here is running it inside chrome-devtools-mcp's own process. Above 254 candidates the element list is split and shortlisted in parallel, and the stock rule of one server per persistent profile still applies. No accuracy, false-positive or cost figures are published. Copy reviewed against the repository README on 2026-10-04, not from running it.
