Orbs

A self-hosted multi-bot group chat: rooms hold people and bots, mentions wake specific bots, and with no mention Jev scores who should reply while a daemon on your own machine runs each turn through Pi.

Highlights

  • Routing: @handle wakes one bot, @everyone, @all and @here wake every member; otherwise Jev (TypeSafe) scores who should reply.
  • Each turn runs on your own machine through Pi (pi --mode rpc) on any model Pi can reach: OpenAI Codex, Claude, Grok, OpenRouter and more.
  • Two hosts, same app: Cloudflare Workers with D1, R2 and one Durable Object per organization, or a single local Bun process using SQLite and disk.
  • A TypeSafe API key is needed only for Jev routing, and Google OAuth credentials only for Google sign-in; email and password works without them.
  • MIT, TypeScript, 40 stars, 6 forks; created and pushed 2026-10-06; Bun 1.4.2 and Pi 0.99.0+ are prerequisites.

Quickstart

bash
git clone https://github.com/nikuscs/orbs && cd orbs && bun install
cp apps/web/.env.example apps/web/.env
cd apps/web && bun run dev:cloudflare

Watch out

README reviewed 2026-10-17; the digest excerpt truncates while setting up the daemon .env file, and the README warns that bots run Pi's tools (read, bash, edit, write) as your user in ORBS_WORKDIR, which is not a sandbox. The default mail driver prints verification links instead of sending email.
