It can, and the README is candid about it: a chunk is only dropped when every history segment puts its keep probability at most 0.1 and below keepThreshold, and that cutoff is called a retention policy rather than a measured error guarantee. Recovery is the design: full stdout and stderr are archived under .claude/fast-jev-output/ before any scoring runs.
Only drop lines. Retained lines are labeled verbatim, each dropped run becomes an [N lines omitted] marker with adjacent omissions sharing one marker, and a single footer carries the archive path. Output at or under 10,000 estimated tokens passes through untouched, with no history read, no archive written and no request to Jev.
No. Errors, JSON, XML, YAML, diffs and binary output are left untouched, as are whole-document commands (cat, jq, git diff, git show, diff, base64, openssl) and recognized documentation, source code and disassembly, whatever command printed them. Content detection takes precedence over the command category.
Each scoring request carries the command, a short task extract, the session history, the chunks, and one noul question per chunk asking whether any line must stay available. Scoring uses the separate TypeSafe API and incurs usage, and more history segments and output groups mean more requests; credential-like commands or output are never archived.
The README carries a Codex section, but the entry's caveat is blunt about it: Codex CLI 0.152.1 cannot replace native shell output, so the pruning path does not apply there. On Claude Code a tool.call hook wraps the Bash tool's next() result, and Read and Grep are never touched in the first place.
Credential-like commands or output are not archived by the plugin at all. For those the omission markers tell the agent to re-run the command instead, and full stdout and stderr only get written under the project's .claude/fast-jev-output/ directory, which is self-gitignored.
A max_tokens_exceeded response retries twice with a halved state budget and repartitions the original history, and any archive write failure, Jev failure or state that cannot fit leaves the original output untouched. Archives persist either way, including when scoring keeps everything or ultimately fails.
