Do I hand-write the tap sequence or does Jev choose it?

No. The actions list declares capabilities, not a script. Jev discovers concrete targets from the current screen each step, and explicit key or finder actions narrow it to one visible widget when needed.

Why does my key work locally but fail inside flutter test?

Create jev.local.json next to pubspec.yaml, add it to .gitignore, and always pass --dart-define-from-file when running. Exporting a shell variable alone does not configure the default client, though apiKey can be passed directly.

What does the attempts budget actually limit?

It caps UI action executions, not scenario restarts or API retries. Ten create-through-save items need at least 30 actions before navigation, goal checks run before actions and after the last one, and exceeding 254 candidates fails explicitly.

What happens when Jev cannot reach the goal?

Success returns a JevisReport; missing the goal, stalling, low confidence, repetition, or API errors throw JevisTestFailure and fail the test. Keep input values in values or value since arbitrary text is never generated.

What runtime and packages do I need for jevis?

The Flutter SDK with Dart 3.4 or later, a device, emulator or simulator, and the jevis package added under dev_dependencies with flutter_test and integration_test. It is a Flutter test package, so a standalone Dart install is not enough.

How many Jev calls can a single run make?

A run can make at most attempts + 1 Noul calls and attempts Choice calls, with goal evaluation before the actions and again after the last allowed one. The attempts value caps UI action executions, not scenario restarts or API retries.

What happens to exploration state between test() calls?

Each test() call resets exploration memory, action history and repetition counters, while app state stays intact, so you can run goals sequentially with the same agent. Do not run them concurrently against the same UI.
