Cribrix

Precision-first RAG orchestrator that wires Jev as a System 1 gate around an LLM: it routes chitchat, triages retrieved chunks with relevance and answer-evidence Nouls, then verifies each claim and withholds drafts whose claims are unsupported.

About this project

A precision-first RAG orchestrator. It filters before it generates, and verifies before it answers. From Latin cribrum — a sieve. Most RAG systems are built to always answer. Retrieve the top-k chunks, stuff them into a prompt, return whatever comes out. This works right up until the corpus doesn't contain the answer — at which point the system confidently invents one, attaches a real citation, and the user has no way to tell.

Quoted from the project's README. Read the full README.

Highlights

  • A query with 20 chunks and a 3-sentence draft costs 22 Jev requests, because each stage batches its questions into one call
  • On a 62-question golden set it answered 0 of 22 unanswerable questions versus 4 of 22 for naive top-5 RAG, and kept context precision at 1.00
  • Every refusal is a distinct status: NO_DOCUMENTS, INSUFFICIENT_CONTEXT, DECLINED, UNGROUNDED, GENERATION_FAILED or VERIFIER_UNAVAILABLE
  • Choice confidence gates routing at 0.8; a real question Jev labelled CHITCHAT at 0.49 confidence was searched and answered instead
  • make eval replays recorded live calls byte-for-byte offline and CI gates on the numbers; make eval-fake is only a wiring test

Watch out

MIT license. The golden set is 62 questions, so the 0/22 result has a confidence interval up to 15%; the README explains where the naive baseline is given the benefit of the doubt.
