Jev never writes text; it picks one grammar rule at a time and the library validates against the real compiler, from python compile to bash syntax checks. Shell commands are built the same way, then run with output shown.
Only Node for the tool itself: macOS or Linux, Node 22 or later, or a private Node 24 the installer fetches. Each language needs its own validator on PATH before a file is written, from python3 compile and bash -n through the TypeScript compiler, gcc or clang, rustc, go vet, luac, and ruby -c. A missing validator stops the write and names the tool. The typesafe.ai key is asked once and saved at mode 600, with TYPESAFE_API_KEY overriding it.
Yes with decide over stdin: choices print label plus confidence with the index as exit status, true prints a probability against a threshold, and score prints a rubric level. Failures exit 125 with the reason on stderr.
No. Non-interactive commands stop and tell you to run jev-code login instead of asking. Login writes the config file while logout removes it, and print or JSON modes suit automation.
curl -fsSL the repository's install.sh piped to bash works on macOS and Linux, using your Node.js 22+ if present or installing a private Node.js 24; rerun it to update. The first run asks for a typesafe.ai key and saves it at mode 600.
Each tool call is one card, and before a shell command runs you press one key: y allows it once, n denies it, and a allows that tool for the whole session. /permissions ask restores per-command approval and /permissions auto runs them without confirmation.
