Jev Calculator

A calculator that lets Jev produce the digits: every step offers the same 13 options, a Cloudflare Worker forwards one System One choice request, and the page renders the per-step probability grid instead of a verified answer.

About this project

A calculator whose answer is produced by TypeSafe's Jev classifier one character at a time. Nothing in this repo evaluates arithmetic: every step Jev is offered the same 13 options (0–9, ., -, END) and the page appends whatever it picks, then shows the full probability distribution it assigned to each option, step by step. Fast typesafe calculator powered by Jev!

Quoted from the project's README. Read the full README.

Highlights

  • Nothing evaluates arithmetic - the browser appends whatever Jev picks until END, then shows the full 13-way distribution.
  • A Worker fronts a Vercel AI Gateway call to Jev and falls back to the direct TypeSafe route on a gateway rate limit.
  • Probabilities are rendered as returned, two decimals and not renormalised, so a column may not sum to 1.
  • Rerun replays the same expression against the previous run, marks the first divergence and prints a run score.

Watch out

There is no correct answer anywhere in the project, by design, so nothing here can be used to check arithmetic. The gateway key is shared by every visitor and capped upstream, which means heavy use pauses runs rather than queuing them, and the direct fallback has its own smaller budget and limiter. Probabilities are displayed exactly as returned, so a column may not sum to 1 and should not be read as a normalised distribution. The run score is a product of per-step confidences, which is a way of showing how the sequence felt rather than a claim about the probability of the final string. The Turnstile bot check is off whenever the sitekey is unset, and local work needs Cloudflare's always-pass test keys. The MIT licence covers the code. Copy reviewed against the repository README on 2026-10-04, not from running it.
