JevGuard

About this project

Plugin for Claude Code and Codex CLI that keeps the agent aligned with the project's rules, checking them with a typed judgment model instead of trusting the agent to remember them on its own. (You may need to send the two commands as separate prompts for the install to pick up the freshly added marketplace.) Then run /plugin configure jevguard@jevguard to set the Jev API key and backend URL; see Configuring the Jev backend.

Quoted from the project's README. Read the full README.

Highlights

  • /jevguard:init reads CLAUDE.md/AGENTS.md, the README, code conventions and, on Claude Code, auto-memory, then generates the rules.
  • Rules land in .jevguard/rules.json, a hand-editable file the agent itself can update with the Write/Edit tools it already has.
  • PreToolUse and Stop hooks call a verifier over POST {state, model, questions} and block or warn based on .jevguard/config.json.
  • Multiple rules about the same content go into one batched request, so there is no cost pressure to keep the rule set minimal.

Watch out

If neither the API key nor the backend URL is set, the base URL defaults to https://api.typesafe.ai and the request goes out with no Authorization header: fine for a local backend that does not require one, a 401 from the real API otherwise, which JevGuard treats as a failed verifier and fails open, so a broken backend silently stops enforcement rather than blocking you. Credentials come from Claude Code's plugin userConfig held in the OS keychain or from JEVGUARD_API_KEY and JEVGUARD_BASE_URL in the environment, never from the committed .jevguard/config.json. Codex does not register the skills as /jevguard:... slash commands, and Codex users have to review and trust two lifecycle hooks before starting a new thread. dist/ is committed so the plugin runs straight from a clone with no build step, which means the shipped bundle is what executes. Copy reviewed against the repository README on 2026-10-04, not from running it.
