Jev RAG

Local-first knowledge search with seven selectable pipelines: BM25 plus Jev reranking is the default vector-free path, plus agentic, embedding-hybrid, taxonomy, gate and line-search modes. Reranks up to 30 candidates in one batched set of Jev Noul relevance questions and streams cited answers from a configurable model.

About this project

Jev RAG is an open-source local knowledge search engine with seven selectable pipelines: BM25 + Jev by default, agentic lexical search, embedding hybrid retrieval, multi-round Agentic Hybrid, taxonomy-routed hybrid retrieval, a unified Jev Passage Gate, and hierarchical Jev Line Search.

Quoted from the project's README. Read the full README.

Highlights

  • Public NFCorpus benchmark: BM25+Jev lifts nDCG@10 from 0.3057 to 0.3532; the best pipeline reaches 0.4508.
  • A key-free BM25-only demo runs over the repo's docs with SQLite FTS5.
  • Seven pipelines in one UI, including two deliberately disclosed negative results.
  • Indexes Markdown, text, HTML, JSON, CSV, YAML, DOCX and PDF with CJK bigram tokenization.

Watch out

MIT licensed and alpha-stage, so APIs and storage schemas may change before 1.0. It is local-first but not offline: selected passages go to Jev and the answer model, and hybrid mode also sends document text and queries to an OpenRouter embedding model.
