JEV Find

An unofficial Chromium extension that adds a find-in-page bar: literal matches highlight instantly and locally, and with your own TypeSafe API key Jev also finds passages by meaning after you pause typing. Uncertain results never auto-scroll, and paid searches start only while you are in the bar.

Highlights

  • Opens with Option+Shift+F on Mac or Alt+Shift+F elsewhere; literal hits highlight yellow and meaning hits purple.
  • Semantic search uses the TypeSafe Jev model with your own key; without a key only literal search runs.
  • Budget: at most 32 requests per search and 160 per tab per 10 minutes, counted as requests, not price.
  • The bar runs in an isolated extension frame; the key stays in chrome.storage.local without sync or telemetry.
  • Reads rendered text including offscreen content and open shadow roots; not PDFs, images, canvas or closed shadow roots.

Quickstart

bash
npm ci
npm test
npm run package

Watch out

README reviewed 2026-10-17; the README is in Polish with an English section, says the good-match thresholds are preliminary and only checked in Chromium 151 on macOS with Windows untested, and notes a page can still infer your query from visible highlights.
