Jev Chat Gate

Framework-independent participation gate for AI agents in group chats: before an untagged answer, typed Jev decisions check for an unanswered request, concrete value, redundancy and intrusion, then admit or skip the draft.

Highlights

  • Adds selective participation without a tag: an agent can help with an open question to the group instead of waiting for a mention.
  • Before an ambient answer, it evaluates the recent conversation and the agent's capabilities for an unanswered request or something concrete to contribute.
  • It also checks whether someone already answered and whether joining would intrude on a conversation between people.
  • Direct requests keep the usual answering path; quiet mode restores direct-request-only participation and off mode blocks new text participation.
  • Before sending an ambient draft it rechecks the reply branch, freshness and policy, because the chance to help may have passed while the model was drafting.

Watch out

Copy reviewed against the repo README on 2026-10-15; the captured README was truncated mid-paragraph in the tests section. The included demo uses synthetic scores, so it verifies routing and lifecycle behavior rather than Jev's conversational judgment. Answer quality, personality and factual accuracy still depend on your answering model.
