JEV Book Tags

Calibre plugin that asks Jev typed questions about each book's genre and subjects, applies configurable per-category probability thresholds, preserves existing tags and leaves uncertain results for manual review. Supports single-book, selected-books and whole-library classification with caching, CSV export and restore.

About this project

JEV Book Tags is a calibre plugin that uses TypeSafe AI JEV to suggest subject and genre tags for books in a calibre library. It preserves existing tags and lets you review suggestions before applying them. Free and independent: this plugin is free, open-source software (GPL-3.0-or-later). It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by TypeSafe AI or the calibre project. There are no referral or affiliate links. TypeSafe AI is a separate service: using its API requires your own key and may incur charges.

Highlights

  • Real 32-book demo: 31 ready and 1 flagged for review, with a 95% Programming category threshold.
  • Defaults are an 85% assignment threshold, an 8-point closeness margin and 80% evidence confidence.
  • Sends metadata only, or metadata plus up to eight EPUB samples within a configurable character cap.
  • Requires calibre 9.0+; native verification so far only on calibre 9.13 on macOS.

Watch out

The README states GPL-3.0-or-later, but GitHub's license field reports NOASSERTION, so no SPDX id could be verified. It sends book metadata or partial EPUB excerpts to TypeSafe's hosted API, needs your own key, and the README notes new accounts may not include free credits.

The request shape barely changes across surfaces; the surrounding contract does. When to call the API directly and when a gateway, a Worker binding, or a router entry earns its extra hop.
