Highlights

  • Pre-registered with kill/go criteria; both studies returned AMBIGUOUS, and the README says so up front.
  • Jev beat gpt-5.4-nano by 7.5pp on CLINC150 zero-shot, but trailed frontier GPT-5.6 Terra by 4.5pp.
  • A 9 ms supervised encoder beat the frontier model by 5.8pp on Banking77 where labeled data exists.
  • Median call duration was ~2.2x shorter for Jev (0.42 s vs 0.92 s on 30 items), not the 40–200x vendor figures.
  • Injection study: Jev's confidence ranks hijacked above resisted decisions (AUROC 0.261, CI entirely below 0.5).

Watch out

Copy reviewed against the repo README on 2026-10-15; the README carries an erratum noting the first published version overstated results and that a threshold-margin sensitivity check flips the sign of the headline cascade result. Treat findings as sample-specific; API costs (~$1) were paid by the author, with no vendor involvement.
