About this project

Jev inference for metric assessment and retention in OpenTelemetry. jevmetrics is an experimental OpenTelemetry Collector metrics processor. It calls TypeSafe’s Jev model to infer the likely operational value of metric instruments from their metadata, then applies deterministic policy to the returned probabilities.

Quoted from the project's README. Read the full README.

Highlights

  • Sends metric metadata as four typed questions with the keep probability driving filtering decisions.
  • Runs inference asynchronously with validated, cached answers while incoming metrics keep flowing.
  • Annotate mode adds jev.metric companion gauges and policy counters without modifying originals.
  • Reduce mode drops whole metrics by policy; protected metrics bypass inference entirely.

Watch out

Alpha status, so start with annotate and evaluate filtering and savings on your own telemetry; annotation preserves input but adds companion volume. Copy reviewed against the repository README on 2026-10-04, not from running it.
