Why does one CLI need two different API keys?

Routing and generation are separate services. ari commit uses only generation credentials, while natural-language requests also need a Jev routing key because Choice classification runs before file selection and generation.

Will it auto-commit or run shell commands by itself?

No. Commit text goes to stdout ready to copy without running git commit, shell commands need confirmation in interactive terminals, and non-interactive pipes return one plain answer and never execute.

How does it handle huge diffs without blowing context?

It budgets locally: metadata is capped, selection is bounded to two attempts, single eligible files skip the model call, and oversized diffs use batched Pi analysis before final generation instead of extra planning calls.

What happens on ambiguous or follow-up requests?

Ambiguous or low-confidence intents trigger clarification, invalid routing responses fail explicitly, and wording-only follow-ups reuse prior answers while new reviews rerun discovery and replace evidence.

How do I install and build it?

Requires Bun 1.3.3+ and Git; clone the repo, run bun install and bun run start, then bun run build produces dist/ari, which you can install to a directory on your PATH such as ~/.local/bin.

What goes in the config file?

The first run creates ~/.ari/config.yaml and exits; fill in generation.apiKey and, for natural-language requests, routing.apiKey, and set the generation provider, model, and endpoint if you are not using the default service.

What routes does Jev classify?

A Choice over the active task and recent conversation picks among commit messages, code review, shell commands, chat, factual continuation, wording-only rewrite, and clarification, and ambiguous or low-confidence intents ask for clarification.
