Jev Opus

Claude Code plugin and CLI that runs Claude Code on Opus 5.5 and has Jev re-decide the reasoning effort when a prompt arrives and after every tool batch, sending each change as a per-message effort statement inside one unbroken prompt cache.

About this project

Claude Opus 5.5 with the effort level re-decided at every step, without breaking the prompt cache.

Quoted from the project's README. Read the full README.

Highlights

  • npm install -g jev-opus, then jev-opus init and jev-opus claude gets Claude Code running under Jev effort control.
  • Effort moves between low and high by default; xhigh and max are never used unless the ceiling is raised.
  • Jev picks the effort at prompt start and again after every tool batch, all inside one prompt.
  • A failing check raises the next step's effort; once the same check passes, effort steps back down.
  • Works with a TypeSafe key or an OpenRouter key; local heuristics run without either.

Watch out

MIT licensed. Needs Node 22.18+ and Claude Code 2.1.280+; claude.ai web, mobile and cloud sessions cannot be routed, and the desktop app's Code tab only supports this via a third-party-inference gateway.

Original write-ups on what this entry is for.

The request shape barely changes across surfaces; the surrounding contract does. When to call the API directly and when a gateway, a Worker binding, or a router entry earns its extra hop.
