Does Jev write JSX or copy for these screens?

No. Jev only returns a probability distribution over named layouts defined in pages.ts. Code samples that distribution and renders real component blocks, which is why generations finish in about 1-2 seconds.

Why do the generated frames look different from each other?

Options are floored so near-zero picks still appear, then combos are drawn without replacement for maximum spread. That turns one distribution into distinct frames instead of the top pick repeated.

Where does my API key live during generation?

It lives only in the dev-server process behind the jevApi middleware. The browser calls a local generate route, and the SDK requires a flag to even attempt a client call as a signal never to do that.

How do I add a layout or a whole new page type?

Add a real component block, describe it in the slot criteria in pages.ts, then wire the option name in BlockPages or the composed renderer. For a new page type add a PageTypeDef with routing text and slots.

How do I run it locally?

Node 20 or newer plus a Jev API key. Run npm install, copy .env.example to .env, fill in TYPESAFE_API_KEY, then npm run dev, which opens on http://localhost:5174, a fixed port. Type a request into the prompt bar and press enter; double-click a frame to zoom into it.

How does one generation map onto one Jev call?

A single systemOne call asks the page-routing question and every page type's slot questions at once, a speculative fan-out in one round trip. The server keeps only the chosen page's answers and returns their probability distributions to the browser.

What keeps the canvas responsive as frames multiply?

Each sampled combination becomes a live page frame built on @xyflow/react, but off-screen or small frames drop to a lightweight snapshot and promote back to live DOM on zoom. A theme sidebar can re-skin every frame's tokens at once without touching the app's own chrome.
