Upstream limits and prices are quoted from TypeSafe's documentation and the README says they may change: roughly 1200 RPM and 250k tokens per second per account, 64k context, and $42 per billion input tokens. You supply the TypeSafe keys; nothing is provisioned for you. First start writes admin.token, master.key and a SQLite database into ./data, so back that up and keep it out of git, and admin.token is full-admin access. Copy reviewed against the repository README on 2026-10-04, not from running it.

It notes a bound proxy that is down will not fall back to a direct connection, to avoid IP association.
No. The protocol is the official one, POST /v1/systemone and GET /v1/models, so a caller changes only base_url and its key. Note it is not an OpenAI chat/completions compatible layer, and the model list uses the official shape with models[].name rather than OpenAI's data[].id, which trips up generic clients that probe for a familiar list endpoint.
One credit is one dollar of call quota. Admins adjust integer credits per account and can batch-generate redemption codes by denomination; users enter a code to add to their balance, and codes are shown once and are dead after use. New keys must attach to an account with balance, calls charge that account, and once the balance reaches zero existing keys start returning 402. A micro-credit is reserved before forwarding and settled on the input tokens actually used.
First start generates admin.token, an AES-256 master key and a SQLite database under ./data, and those files are the whole state, so the README says to back up data/ and keep it out of git. The upstream keys exist only encrypted under that master key, so losing it loses them. Separately, admin.token remains an emergency way in with administrator-equivalent access, and it is not a TypeSafe jev_ key.
Docker Engine 24 or newer with Compose, or Go 1.24 or newer for go run ./cmd/jevproxy. It also needs reachability to api.typesafe.ai, at least one TypeSafe key from the console, a free port 8080 configurable through JEVPROXY_LISTEN, and a writable data directory. The project is MIT-licensed.
Yes. The repo ships a small stdio MCP bridge at cmd/jev-mcp whose Codex entry named jev exposes a jev_decide tool, sending native POST /v1/systemone requests to the local gateway. It reads TYPESAFE_API_KEY and TYPESAFE_BASE_URL from the process environment and falls back to ~/.codex/.env; no credentials are stored in the repository.
Admins see every page; ordinary users see only their own user keys and call logs and can create keys. The upstream keys page is admin-only and carries weight, RPM, disable and outbound proxy binding. The play page sends a real request through the pool and charges the logged-in account, which is why the emergency admin.token cannot use it. Login, registration and redemption are all rate limited per IP.
