Open JEV

An independent local alternative to Jev: it takes English or Chinese context, questions, and candidate answers, and returns probabilities over the supplied candidates from a frozen Qwen3-4B backend.

Highlights

  • Runs inference locally with no paid API; the backend is a frozen Qwen3-4B-Instruct-2507, about 8 GB pinned and 4 GB for the MLX 8-bit copy.
  • Returns a choice and relative probabilities only over the supplied candidates, with no added answer or abstention option.
  • Limits: 2 to 8 candidates per question, 4,096 full prompt tokens per question, 16 questions in the UI and 100 in the API.
  • Questions run sequentially and re-encode the context; shared-context computation is planned, not delivered.
  • The README states it is not affiliated with TypeSafe and contains none of Jev's code, weights, or RLCD implementation.

Watch out

Project code is Apache-2.0, but third-party models and datasets keep their own licenses and no TypeSafe/Jev branding rights are granted; tested only on an Apple M3 with 16 GB, and the bundle does not support full evaluation reproduction.

A really smart switch statement

hype-free explanation of jev: jev does not replace gpt / claude jev is just a *really* smart switch statement like if 2016 ml classifiers got 2026 levels of intelligence it's a new* type of tool that will make a lot of workloads insanely fast, cheap, and accurate * = and by Show more

After co-inventing ChatGPT, I kept asking myself: why have superhuman chat models not led to AGI? I’ve spent the last 2 years in stealth building a new way to train models (RLCD), and a new type of frontier AI model that we are releasing today: Jev • 20-200x faster • 40-400x

The case against Jev-scored compaction

This is a terrible compaction strategy that fundamentally doesn't understand how compaction and context management work. Seems like a lot of people are confused so let's break this down. 1. Compaction isn't a filter The role of compaction is to clean up history to keep the Show more
