Sedum

Open-source, pre-alpha CLI that runs plain-English browser tests on Playwright, using Jev for bounded decisions: resolving each step, picking elements among offered candidates and judging verify claims with probabilities. Bring your own TypeSafe key; MIT licensed.

About this project

Write browser tests in plain English, keep the full power of TypeScript, and run the whole suite on every pull request for dollars a month instead of thousands. Each ai(...) sentence is one step that Sedum resolves on the page, with no selectors. Everything between steps is ordinary code: Playwright's page and expect, test data from any library, API calls to seed or skip setup, and helper functions.

Highlights

  • TypeSafe Jev is the default provider and returns probabilities, not free text; Cloudflare Clef (clef or clef-flash) is an opt-in alternative.
  • Goal mode asks one Jev Choice per turn for the next operation -- click, type, done or blocked -- plus a speculative target among the page's offered elements.
  • The README prices a 20-person team's PR suite at $38-$91 a month with Jev versus $4,875 on a per-step AI platform (53x less).
  • Requires Node.js 20.19+; installed as sedum-cli from npm; status is pre-alpha with Linux and macOS verified and Windows experimental.
  • Tests can be TypeScript or YAML, and values wrapped in secret() are typed by Playwright but never sent to the model or shown in reports.

Watch out

MIT licensed, but pre-alpha: the test format may change before 1.0, and it needs Node.js 20.19 or newer plus a TypeSafe key or compatible endpoint. Goal tests are YAML-only for now.

Fuzzy linter hook for Claude Code and Codex: after the agent edits a file, it sends the added code to Jev, which answers Noul checks against team rule packs in about 0.3 seconds, letting the agent fix violations before code review.

Supervisor for unattended coding agents: it tracks cross-turn state and asks one batched Jev Choice whether a trajectory should continue, pause or escalate, while deterministic code owns dangerous-command blocking, budget caps and Ed25519-signed receipts.

CLI quality gate that asks four typed questions about each change - three Score lenses for commit quality, doc alignment and breaking-API risk, plus a Noul secret audit - and fails a diff, commit message or doc set below the resulting 0-100 score. Runs from a terminal, a git pre-commit hook or a GitHub Action.

The request shape barely changes across surfaces; the surrounding contract does. When to call the API directly and when a gateway, a Worker binding, or a router entry earns its extra hop.
