Progressive Robot: TypeSafe's $7.5B valuation, by the numbers
An analysis of TypeSafe's $870 million Series A at a $7.5 billion valuation that corrects the 24-days framing, showing the $40 million seed was priced more than a year earlier, and notes the close came in below September's $10 billion talk.

Highlights
- TypeSafe raised $870 million at a $7.5 billion valuation, led by Andreessen Horowitz with Sequoia and DCVC; Martin Casado joined the board.
- The analysis says the $200M-to-$7.5B-in-24-days framing is wrong: the seed was priced more than a year before Jev launched.
- It computes a 37.5x step-up, an implied $6.63 billion pre-money valuation, and an 11.6% stake for the new investors.
- The close was 13% less cash and a 25% lower price than the $1 billion-plus raise reported in September at $10 billion or more.
- Per Bloomberg, via the piece: just over 20 staff in San Francisco, no disclosed revenue, and the CEO's claim that Jev is profitable after expenses.
Watch out
Copy reviewed against the published analysis on 2026-10-17. It is the ninth piece in the site's own Jev coverage, its arithmetic rests on TypeSafe's blog footnote, a16z's note, Bloomberg and press reports, and TypeSafe has not said whether $7.5 billion is pre- or post-money.
Questions about this entry
Short answers drawn from the linked project or page.
The startup raised $870 million at a $7.5 billion valuation, disclosed in a footnote of TypeSafe's own blog post, led by Andreessen Horowitz with Sequoia Capital and seed investor DCVC joining, and Martin Casado taking a board seat.
Because the seed was not priced on launch day. The FT quoted Almeida saying the $40 million seed round concluded at a $200 million valuation more than a year ago, so the piece calls it a 37.5x step-up across more than a year.
Treating both disclosed prices as post-money: a 37.5x step-up, an implied $6.63 billion pre-money valuation, an 11.6% stake for new investors, and a seed stake worth $1.33 billion, about 33 times the $40 million raised.
It came in below the talk: in September, The Information reported talks to raise $1 billion or more at a valuation of at least $10 billion. The close was 13% less cash and a 25% lower price.
Per Bloomberg as cited: just over 20 people in San Francisco, no disclosed revenue, and Almeida saying Jev is profitable after expenses. The blog post gives no revenue, headcount or burn figures.
TypeSafe has not said. The piece notes Tencent News described it as post-money and uses that reading for its calculations, while cautioning that the company itself has not confirmed the basis.
It is an analysis built from public disclosures and press reports rather than audited financials; its calculations ignore option pools and any other undisclosed financing, as the piece itself states.
