Pi Gear Router

Pi extension that has Jev score each user request on a continuous 0-2 scale and cuts that range into five bands choosing one of three model gears (light, standard, heavy) plus a thinking level. A plain "continue" can inherit the current gear without a new Jev call.

Highlights

  • Jev returns a score from 0 to 2 that maps to five bands across three model tiers.
  • Bands 0.5-1.0 and 1.0-1.5 share the standard gear but differ in thinking level.
  • A plain "continue" may skip evaluation for up to three inherited turns by default.
  • Requires Pi 1.1.0+ and installs as a virtual model picked with pi --model gears/auto.
  • gearBias shifts the raw score by up to 0.4 toward cheaper or stronger gears.

Watch out

MIT licensed. Needs a TypeSafe API key for judgments; with routing disabled or no key it falls back to the most recent physical model or the standard gear. A timeout degrades rather than blocking, and gear switching can lose a provider's prompt cache.

The request shape barely changes across surfaces; the surrounding contract does. When to call the API directly and when a gateway, a Worker binding, or a router entry earns its extra hop.
