About this project

Simple, practical AI evaluations in TypeScript. Zevals provides utilities for testing AI agents. Unlike the few existing AI eval libraries and frameworks: Treats AI evals like end-to-end tests, with less focus on metrics and more focus on binary assertions. Designed to evaluate full conversations, not just single query/response pairs. Does not impose any testing framework or test runner. Support for evaluating entire scenarios, with optional user simulation.

Quoted from the project's README. Read the full README.

Highlights

  • Segments compose user messages, agent responses, and judgments into scenarios, including deterministic adaptive replies.
  • Assertion helpers cover follow-up behavior and tool calls, with scoping to the latest assistant turn when needed.
  • Synthetic users simulate multi-turn humans until any pass or fail criterion, with explicit failure on turn ceilings.
  • Message context passes attachments and metadata to the agent untouched and is never forwarded to judges.

Watch out

Jev judges return probabilities without prose, so explanations need a separate judge called only on failures. Copy reviewed against the repository README on 2026-10-04, not from running it.
