Onion or Not

A small Python app that asks whether a headline is Onion-style satire or real news. Jev runs through TypeSafe's API with your own key and is compared side by side with AnyJev L0 and raw Qwen3-8B running locally, with an option to swap the answer order.

Highlights

  • Two open models run locally through llama.cpp while Jev answers from TypeSafe's API with your own key.
  • The option-swap toggle asks both satire-or-real-news and real-news-or-satire to test answer flipping.
  • AnyJev L0 reads both orders, so its answer cannot flip the way a plain LLM's sometimes can, per the README.
  • Quick start is uv sync, copy .env.example to .env with a TypeSafe key, then uv run onion-or-not download for the model.
  • MIT licensed, written in Python for Python 3.10+ and uv, created and pushed 2026-10-16.

Quickstart

bash
git clone https://github.com/andrisgauracs/onion-or-not.git
cd onion-or-not
uv sync
cp .env.example .env
uv run onion-or-not download

Watch out

README reviewed 2026-10-17; the three-way setup needs both a TypeSafe key and about 5 GB of local model weights, and the README excerpt shows no accuracy results, only the comparison method.
