About this project

The milvus-model library provides the integration with common embedding and reranker models for Milvus, a high performance open-source vector database built for AI applications. milvus-model lib is included as a dependency in pymilvus, the Python SDK of Milvus. milvus-model supports embedding and reranker models from service providers like OpenAI, Voyage AI, Cohere, Jina AI, and TypeSafe (Jev), and open-source models through SentenceTransformers or Hugging Face Text Embeddings Inference (TEI) .

Quoted from the project's README. Read the full README.

Highlights

  • Bundles adapters for embedding and reranker models from OpenAI, Voyage AI, Cohere, Jina AI and TypeSafe.
  • Local models run through SentenceTransformers or Hugging Face Text Embeddings Inference.
  • Ships as a dependency of pymilvus and installs via the pymilvus[model] extra; Python 3.8 and above.
  • If you installed it through the PyMilvus optional components, upgrade PyMilvus too for compatibility.

Watch out

The captured README is short and stops at installation. It never shows how to configure the Jev provider - no property name, model id, dimension guidance, cost note or code sample - so the practical detail of using it has to come from somewhere else. Jev appears here as one embedding and reranker option among five hosted providers, and this is not a Jev integration project: Milvus is the vector database and this package adapts models to it. No per-provider dependencies, default model names, dimension-mismatch guidance, benchmarks or accuracy claims are documented. Copy reviewed against the repository README on 2026-10-04, not from running it.
