Jev Search MCP

Jev-backed web search for Claude Code and Codex in three forms: a function-hook plugin that answers the built-in WebSearch with Jev, an MCP server, and a CLI. Jev picks sources and time window, then ranks results by relevance; zero runtime dependencies.

Highlights

  • Ships as a Claude Code plugin, an MCP server and a CLI from one zero-runtime-dependency npm package.
  • As a plugin it answers Claude Code's built-in WebSearch with Jev and falls back to the built-in on errors or rate limits.
  • Jev chooses sources, time window and keywords, then scores each result for relevance instead of generating answers.
  • Covers Google, DuckDuckGo and Yandex plus Hacker News, Reddit, GitHub, X, arXiv, YouTube, Wikipedia, IMDb and WeChat.
  • Node 22 required; npx runs the CLI, and the plugin path needs Claude Code 2.1.271+ with function hooks enabled.

Quickstart

bash
claude mcp add --scope user jev-search -- npx -y jev-search-mcp
npx -y jev-search-mcp search "new papers on speculative decoding" --window 30d --sources arxiv --max 8

Watch out

Copy reviewed against the repo README on 2026-10-15; parts of the README are written in Chinese and our copy is truncated before the end, so later sections are not covered here. No benchmarks are given for the relevance ranking, and the default Jev Search instance is a hosted service rather than local inference.
