What is jev-route for Python agents?

An async, typed intent and tool routing library for Python agents. It sits in front of your callables, asks the Jev decision engine which capability should handle an input, applies a confidence gate, and only then invokes the matching handler.

How does it reach Jev?

JevClient.decide() calls the Jev engine (typesafe/jev-1.13) through OpenRouter's OpenAI-compatible /chat/completions endpoint and returns a typed JevResponse with the winner, confidence, per-option choices and an abstention noul.

How does the confidence gate work?

JevDecision.evaluate() compares the winner's score against your threshold. Below it the winner is discarded for a fallback handler or plain abstention, and the winning label is resolved against the router's own registry so invented labels are degraded too.

How is it different from harness adapters?

Adapters add a decision step to a runner you did not write. jev-route is a plain Python dependency inside your own process, where your code owns the loop and the gate is a comparison in code rather than an instruction a model is asked to respect.

How do I install and test it?

It is distributed on PyPI as jev-route, targets Python 3.10+ and ships py.typed under mypy strict; the README's visible portion shows badges for CI, ruff and PyPI rather than a literal install line, and tests can use httpx.MockTransport.

What do I need to run it?

A Jev engine reachable through OpenRouter with an API key. JevRoute never answers the user itself, it decides who should and hands the work over, with no CLI, daemon, IDE plugin or framework lock-in.

Does it need a fallback handler?

Not strictly: when no fallback is configured a weak decision becomes a plain abstention. The digest shows no benchmarks, so the guarantees are about the routing mechanics - thresholds, registry checks and errors - not about Jev's accuracy itself.
