eve is a filesystem-first framework for durable AI agents. Core agent capabilities live in conventional locations, so projects are easier to inspect, extend, and operate. A typical eve agent has this structure: Read the documentation for the full project layout and guides. This creates a new my-agent directory, installs its dependencies, initializes Git, and starts the interactive terminal UI. The generated agent uses openai/gpt-6-luna-fast with high reasoning.

Apache-2.0 and in beta under Vercel's public beta terms, so APIs may change. Needs Node.js and npm; the AI SDK evaluation model specification is experimental, and the caller owns routing and effects.

It is a framework, not a replacement for what you already run. An agent is a directory holding instructions.md plus optional tools, skills, channels and schedules folders, and you can scaffold one with npx eve@latest init without touching existing tooling.
Not by default. The generated agent uses a Gateway model ID with high reasoning. The auto router defaulting to Jev through Vercel AI Gateway comes from the entry's own notes rather than the README, and either way you can pin the model in agent/agent.ts.
That is the intended shape, since agents are plain files and the scaffolder even initializes a Git repository for you. The README describes no server state or account requirement for running one locally, so a checkout is the whole distribution.
Plan for churn. It ships under Vercel's public beta terms, which state that the framework, APIs, documentation and behaviour may change before GA. The evaluate helper's model specification is also marked experimental.
npx eve@latest init my-agent creates the directory, installs dependencies, initializes Git and starts the interactive terminal UI, with a generated agent on openai/gpt-6-luna-fast at high reasoning. Pass --model for a different AI Gateway model ID, --reasoning to set effort explicitly, and a path such as npx eve@latest init . to add eve to an existing project. Afterwards npm run dev restarts the scaffolded agent.
agent/instructions.md is the only required file and holds the always-on system prompt. Everything else is an optional folder discovered by convention: tools/ for typed functions the model can call, skills/ for procedures loaded on demand, channels/ for message channels such as HTTP, Slack or Discord, and schedules/ for recurring cron jobs. agent/agent.ts is optional and carries the model and runtime config.
From the agent directory run npx eve link to connect a Vercel project, then npx eve add channel/web and choose a hosting layout. Sign in with Vercel to provision authentication for project members, or pick Web Chat from the terminal UI's /add channel picker. npx eve deploy publishes it; local development works with no browser sign-in. The package ships its own docs under node_modules/eve/docs for coding agents to read.
