Cultivar

A CLI from Pinecone's DevRel team for testing Agent Skills and docs against tasks: run tasks across Claude, Copilot and Gemini in local or Modal sandboxes, compare with-skill, without-skill and with-docs variants, and grade with Claude or a TypeSafe System One backend.

Highlights

  • Optional typesafe grading backend uses TypeSafe System One instead of Claude, described as about 30x cheaper, without written reasoning or quoted evidence.
  • Variants: with-skill, without-skill, with-docs, without-docs and self-navigate; with-docs:<label> expands one run per doc version for side-by-side comparison.
  • Runs locally or in isolated Modal sandboxes, up to --parallel N (default 5), with --repeat N for reliability runs per task and variant.
  • Per-run artifacts include stats, conversation traces, raw JSONL streams, setup/verify logs and the grader verdict with reasoning and suggestions.
  • MIT, Python 3.11+, 42 stars; created 2026-06-17 and pushed 2026-10-14, making it one of the more actively maintained items in this digest.

Quickstart

bash
uv tool install cultivar
cultivar hello --no-grade
cultivar init my-skill
cultivar run --skill my-skill --runner claude --remote --grade

Watch out

README reviewed 2026-10-17; TypeSafe System One is an optional grading backend for CI gates, not the default, and it needs the optional extra pip install 'cultivar[typesafe]'. The digest shows no accuracy numbers for that backend, and real runs need Anthropic keys plus a Modal account for --remote work.
