About this project

Watch Jev, TypeSafe's System One model, play chess against any LLM on OpenRouter or against the Stockfish engine, or play Jev yourself. Every move is shown as it happens, with the moves Jev weighed and how likely it thought each one was, and every finished game is saved for replay.

Quoted from the project's README. Read the full README.

Highlights

  • Plays at jevchess.xera.ac with no key on lent keys capped per day; your own keys lift the cap.
  • Runs Jev versus machines, you versus Jev with typed, clicked, or voiced moves, plus saved games with PGN copy.
  • Code lists legal moves with chess.js and describes captures, checks, threats, and material in words.
  • Asks a Choice over legal moves plus a seven-level Score for the evaluation bar in about 300 ms per move.

Watch out

Jev does not search ahead and is weak at arithmetic, so code computes the facts; the full wording stayed after a six-games-each comparison against short wording landed within noise. Copy reviewed against the repository README on 2026-10-04, not from running it.

Most Jev accuracy problems are state problems. What belongs in a state, what is a pre-made judgment to leave out, and why naming the slice you ask about matters more than the wording.
