No. The app bundles and connects its own CodeGraph runtime to the selected workspace and indexes automatically. The separate CLI instructions are optional developer tools, and indexes live outside the repo.

The Cask declares both as dependencies, so Homebrew installs them when unregistered. If you installed either through another package manager, check for a conflict before installing.

It stays off by default. Enabling Settings TypeSafe API Allow history recall lets the assistant send the question plus candidate passages and neighboring messages to TypeSafe Jev, or to OpenAI Luna low on your Codex login when Jev is unavailable.

The native terminal integration targets macOS. Source runs need Bun 1.3.14 or newer, Node with TypeScript stripping, full Xcode with Swift 6 or newer, plus Codex CLI and GitHub CLI.

Apple Silicon and macOS Tahoe 26 or later, because the bundled CodeGraph executables require macOS 26. Install it with brew install --cask cheshiai/tap/cheshi, which places it in Applications, or download the signed and notarized ZIP from Releases. It is in preview, and installation does not sign you in: the Codex sign-in prompt comes on first launch, and GitHub sign-in is requested when you first want the GitHub features.

Under ~/Library/Application Support/Cheshi/, outside your project. Workspace registrations, settings and CodeGraph indexes all live there, and there is no need to create a ~/.codegraph or .codegraph folder in the repository. Opening a workspace with no index starts its initial indexing; existing indexes are reused. Language support is detected rather than configured: packaged builds include the TypeScript server and Pyright, Rust support uses an installed rust-analyzer, and a missing server falls back to parser-only support.

Jev also answers yes/no decisions inside explicitly invoked executable skills, with Luna low as the fallback. That runner is currently a source-checkout CLI feature and is separate from the history recall switch, so enabling recall does not enable it and vice versa. Billing differs too: Jev usage and the fixed-sample connection checks come from your TypeSafe account allowance, while Luna runs on your Codex account.
