About this project

jegrep Jevantic grep: describe it, find it. Natural-language search that works like grep. No embeddings, no index, no daemon. Semantic: Finds concepts ("where do we verify JWT tokens?"), not just strings. No Index: Searches the live tree on every run. Nothing to build, refresh, or go stale. Calibrated: Every path gets an absolute yes/no probability, so thresholds mean something and batches stay comparable.

Quoted from the project's README. Read the full README.

Highlights

  • No embeddings, no index and no daemon: every run reads the live tree, so results never go stale.
  • Hits return as dirname/filename:first-last ranges with original line numbers, strongest range last.
  • Jev runs through OpenRouter or TypeSafe with automatic failover on auth, timeout, rate-limit and server errors.
  • A dozen pluggable exploration strategies, including grep-style lexical variants, chosen with --strategy.

Watch out

Cost figures are the author's own pricing claim, and every run spends tokens because nothing about the tree is cached. Files whose content looks like credential material are withheld unless you pass --allow-secrets, and dotfiles are skipped unless you pass --hidden, so a search can quietly miss matches. Linux release binaries need glibc 2.39 or newer. Copy reviewed against the repository README on 2026-10-04, not from running it.
